Almost overnight trees in Songdo are decorated in a strange and mysterious way.
But why and how, and by whom?

One of the numerous brightly colored trees in Songdo’s many parks.
You can also see there are cycling paths, and what you can’t see in this picture are the trekking-, running-, and jogging paths next to it.
But what’s really different in Korea is how people deal with autumn, look at the picture to the right and underneath…
Autumn in Korea at first sight seems similar to European fall, but there are some differences. Not so much in how the leaves change color and drop to the ground, but in how the people deal with the trees in the Fall.

Decorated trees?
The street you see in the picture is one of the main streets in Songdo, with on the left (which you can’t see) Central Park. You will notice that all trees are decorated in some odd way.
Upon asking my teacher Korean Language ms. Yunji, why people decorated trees, she told me that this is a project designed to prevent winter damage and pests.
It is also aimed at improving the aesthetics of the city, and to brighten the atmosphere of the village, which has been stagnant due to Covid-19, as well as to have a positive impact on the residents.
Well, it certainly made me smile when I saw it for the first time. What do you think of it?
